The second intensive workshop ended on 18 March with a lecture by Stephen Mayes, managing director of VII Photo in New York, and co-secretary of the World Press Photo jury. Stephen is one of the leading figures in the industry, and he spoke to the students about the new approaches to photojournalism that are required given the revolutions underway in the media economy.

Stephen’s lecture was the final in a series of talks during the two week intensive. Students also heard from Melissa Chen of Al-Jazeera English, Sean Gallagher, and Kathleen McLaughlin of The Global Post. This was in addition to regular course contributors, including Dan Chung who spoke about his experiences covering the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.
